🌿 Meet Our Board: Shelley Morgan

A Lifetime of Youth, Community & Conservation

This week, we’re pleased to introduce Shelley Morgan, Iowa Division Board member and 2nd Vice President of the Ottumwa Chapter.

A lifelong Ottumwa resident, Shelley’s love of the outdoors began early, growing up in an active hunting and fishing family and through her years in scouting. She went on to dedicate an incredible 47 years to serving students and families as an Administrative Assistant in the Special Education Division for Southern Prairie AEA.

Although Shelley officially joined the Izaak Walton League in 2011, her connection to the Ottumwa Chapter began years earlier through her volunteer work with Boy Scout Troop 2.

Over the years, Shelley has served as Chapter Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Secretary, Newsletter Editor, and Iowa State Director.

🌱 Championing Youth & Community

Youth have always been at the heart of Shelley’s life and service.

She has been involved with the Girl Scouts for 64 years, earning her First Class Award as a young scout, and has been part of the Boy Scouts for 35 years.

Today, she continues that commitment through several leadership roles, including Iron Horse District Youth Activities Chair, Cubmaster for Pack 2, and Brownie Troop 672 Co-Leader.

Shelley is especially proud of helping guide several young men to the rank of Eagle Scout, including her son. Their most recent project brought a new kayak storage rack to the Ottumwa Izaak Walton League lake. 🛶

🐞 A Spark for Conservation

Shelley’s love of nature was sparked by a childhood Girl Scout camp director known as “Woody,” who led unforgettable nighttime “Let’s go Buggin’!” adventures to explore the beauty of nature.

That sense of wonder has stayed with Shelley throughout her life.

Today, she is helping lead the Ottumwa Chapter’s new Conservation Committee, organizing “Make Ottumwa Shine”community cleanups, and caring for a two-mile stretch of Highway 34.

For Shelley, the Izaak Walton League provides a way to bring people together, tackle environmental challenges, and create meaningful change in the community.

📢 Shelley Has a Challenge for Us!

Shelley would love to see the Izaak Walton League expand its reach into Missouri, which currently has no chapters.

Do you have connections to Missouri colleges, communities, businesses, outdoor organizations, or individuals who might be interested in conservation and the Izaak Walton League?

Shelley would love to hear from you!

💚 Thank You, Shelley!

Shelley’s story is a wonderful reminder that conservation is built not only through protecting land and water, but through mentoring young people, serving our communities, and inspiring the next generation to care about the outdoors.

We’re grateful for Shelley’s decades of service, her incredible energy, and her commitment to conservation and community.

Meet our board. Meet the people behind the mission. 🌿
